[ diese Woche ][ gestern ][ heute ][ morgen ]Club of Rome abused for socialist utopia?Graeme Maxton addresses the situation of the globe in terms of the failure of a capitalist system, suggesting that design of a new system of wealth redistribution will solve the problems. The fans of preconceived redistribution ideas seem to be using the anxiety generated by pollution, resource exhaustion, failed states etc in order to push for the old idea of redistribuitive utopia. He is even denying the success of lifting people out of poverty based on the argument that China, where much of this has been happening, is not fully capitalist. Maxton is at least acknolwedging that population growth is a problem. But he is not calling for its suppression. Rather he is calling for transfer of wealth from the more virtuous to those who abusively multiply. He is not addressing the fact that the wrong populations, those who can not afford the responsibility, are growing within nations and especially world wide, and that in the past the solution to this problem has always been one of death by backlash of nature. He is pretending that protest movements aiming at redistribution are responses to problems. But already in the 1970s Sempé published a caricature of a protest crowd with posters “We are too many”. He is calling for people with new ideas, but his are older than Sempé. People present him as someone who speaks out on uncomfortable truths, but he is deliberately suppressing the uncomfortable issues. He is providing no correct diagnosis but instead calling for redistributive global governmnent and an easy narrative that allows individuals to feel as if they were better and to engage in a cozy virtue-signalling movement at the expense of the real big issues. |
